A minimally invasive procedure for the treatment of varicose veins, Radiofrequency Ablation, or RFA, can be performed in an office setting with local anesthesia. It uses radiofrequency energy to heat up and “ablate” (damage) the inside wall of the vein, causing scar tissue to form. The scar tissue closes off the varicose vein, and blood flow is naturally rerouted through healthy veins. Recovery from RFA is generally short, and patients will be asked to wear compression stockings for a week or more after treatment.
